About this episode
In Episode 6 of Indigenous Ivan, Ivan Eagletail completes his reflections on health by exploring the deep connection between human wellbeing and the health of the earth.
Ivan shares an old Tsuut’ina story about a family crossing a frozen lake and the moment that separated their people. Passed from generation to generation, the story carries a warning about taking too much from beneath the earth and reminds us that what we do to the land, we ultimately do to ourselves.
He also discusses the importance of balancing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health; allowing children to express their feelings; and finding healthy ways to work through grief and stress. Ivan closes with a personal story about starting a school breakfast program that sometimes fed as many as 65 children—an example of how generosity and simple acts of care can strengthen an entire community.
