What Chestermere residents can now put in their blue recycling carts

16 October 2026

The expanded collection list took effect October 1 and includes glass containers, foam and flexible packaging.

Chestermere’s expanded recycling list has been in effect since October 1, giving residents more options for everyday packaging in their blue carts and at the Eco Centre.

The City’s September announcement lists glass containers, household aerosol containers, foam packaging, flexible plastics and laminated paper and plastic packaging among the additions.

Examples include glass jars, bread bags, snack bags and foam takeout containers. The City says accepted items can go into the same cart without sorting them into separate streams.

Residents are asked to empty packaging, group plastic bags together and flatten cardboard. Film and absorbent pads should be removed from foam meat trays. Shredded paper belongs in a tied clear plastic bag.

The changes are part of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility recycling system. Residents can consult the City’s announcement and linked sorting information before disposing of an unfamiliar item.
