Strathmore, Alta. – On August 2, 2026 at approximately 2:50 a.m., Strathmore RCMP responded to a reported discharge of a firearm complaint in the 300 block of Lakeside Boulevard. Members immediately responded to secure the area. The initial investigation determined a male had been ejected from a licensed premises after causing a disturbance inside. The same male returned with what was reported to be a sawed off shotgun and menaced patrons who were outside. The firearm was discharged toward the ground outside before the male fled.
Strathmore members conducted an extensive search in the area over a period of several hours and located the involved individual. A firearm believed to be used in the offence was also found in a nearby park with the assistance of the RCMP Police Service Dog. The suspect was identified as Kieon Northpeigan, a 30 year old man with no fixed address. Northpeigan was held for a hearing and remanded into custody charged with 14 offences which included seven firearms charges, four charges for failure to comply with release conditions, Mischief, Resist Arrest, and Uttering Threats.
The investigation is ongoing. Northpeigan remains in custody. His next appearance in the Alberta Court of Justice is scheduled for August 7, 2026.
