Southern Alberta Music Festival Brings Two Days of Music to Aspen Crossing

10 August 2026

Rural festival featured 11 performers while supporting STARS By Stephen Jeffrey

Jason Thornhill, good friend of the station and owner of Aspen Crossing, shared information on the annual Southern Alberta Music Festival that he and Aspen Crossing hosted Aug. 7 and 8.

The two-day festival brought live music, camping and food and beverage service to the rural attraction near Mossleigh, about 50 minutes southeast of Calgary.

Organizers presented a varied lineup of Alberta performers, including Craig Moritz, Ben Chase, Garrett Gregory, Fraid Knot, Donna & Leroy, the Robert Gosse Band, Double Suede, High Steppin Daddy, Nite Life, Larry Vanatta and Bill Thornhill.

The event was held in support of STARS, the non-profit air ambulance organization serving Alberta and neighbouring provinces. Festival organizers said the weekend was intended to raise awareness for the organization while giving visitors an opportunity to hear live music in a rural setting.

Camping was available at Aspen Crossing during the festival weekend. The venue advised campers that two weekend passes were included with campsite bookings for Aug. 7 and 8. Visitors could also purchase festival passes separately.

The Southern Alberta Music Festival has become part of Aspen Crossing’s summer events calendar, combining entertainment with the property’s campground, restaurants and railway-themed attractions.

For residents of Chestermere and surrounding communities, the festival offered a regional outing within driving distance of the city and an opportunity to support musicians performing in southern Alberta.

Aspen Crossing is located west of Mossleigh along Highway 24. The property operates as a rural tourism destination offering camping, dining and themed railway excursions throughout the year.

Additional information about future festival programming, tickets and camping is available through the Southern Alberta Music Festival and Aspen Crossing websites.
