Rocky View Schools (RVS) is pleased to once again offer its My First Ride event from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 25 at the RVS Education Centre (2651 Chinook Winds Drive SW, Airdrie). This annual event is a time for new bus riders to familiarize themselves with the school bus before the first day of school.
“Students riding the bus for the first time may be understandably nervous and won’t know what to expect, especially if they are also attending school for the first time,” said Senior Manager of Transportation, Morley Kostecky. “By offering My First Ride, we hope to give new bus riders and their families a safe environment to get used to the school bus and ask their questions so they are ready and excited to be transported on the first day of school.”
While families do not need to register for My First Ride ahead of time, it is not a drop-in event and will begin promptly at 6 p.m. each evening with a presentation by an RVS bus contractor. During the presentation, families will learn about safety both on the bus and at bus stops, and will have an opportunity to ask questions. Students then have the chance to take a short bus ride.
The program for this free event is identical each night and families are welcome to attend which ever evening works best for their schedule.
Families can also watch RVS’ short bus safety
and bus expectations
videos to learn how to keep bus rides respectful, safe and responsible for everyone. Both videos are available on the RVS website and on YouTube
