Last week, our government announced fuel tax relief for Albertans, stronger career and financial education, and help for Alberta businesses looking to expand abroad. These measures will ease the cost of living while creating opportunities for Albertans to build their future right here at home.
Albertans will get a three-month break from provincial fuel taxes starting October 1. Our government is suspending the full 13-cent-per-litre tax on gasoline and diesel until the end of the year to help offset higher fuel prices. That means savings of $7.80 on a 60-litre fill-up. This relief will also help businesses that rely on vehicles to make deliveries and serve customers. We will keep monitoring fuel prices at the pump to make sure the full tax savings are passed on to Albertans.
Students should leave school with the skills they need to manage money and make informed career choices. That is why Alberta’s government is making changes to the Grade 10 career and life management curriculum that focuses on practical financial skills, including budgeting, saving, banking, responsible spending, and managing debt. Students taking this course will also explore careers and entrepreneurship pathways, including starting their own business. Teachers will test the draft curriculum this school year before province-wide implementation, planned for September 2028. Draft Grade 10 physical education and wellness and Grades 7 to 9 science curricula are also available for testing. We have committed $41 million this school year to support the broader rollout of this updated curriculum.
Alberta businesses looking to expand internationally will benefit from a $1.1-million investment in Level Up. Our government is partnering with Calgary Economic Development to deliver export training, coaching, and advice on specific markets to companies across Alberta. Selling to more international markets can reduce reliance on any single market when tariffs and trade disputes disrupt sales. Level Up builds on the Trade Accelerator Program, which has supported more than 660 Alberta companies since 2018. Those businesses have secured more than 200 trade deals across 50 international markets, showing how export support can help local businesses grow and find new customers.
Finally, I am excited to share that a new non-profit Community Hub in Chestermere has received $1.5 million in funding from the Government of Alberta through the 2026 Active Communities Initiative Grant. This funding is an exciting step forward for Chestermere, supporting the vision for a shared community hub, expanded recreational opportunities, and much-needed community space for residents.
By lowering fuel costs, investing in education and economic growth, and supporting local non-profits and recreation, our government is helping build stronger communities and a stronger future for Alberta.
