A local community organization has contributed $3,000 toward improvements at Chestermere's Lakeside Golf Club, helping advance plans for a long-awaited shelter for volunteers and staff who help keep the facility operating.

The donation was formally presented during a Governance and Priorities Committee meeting of Chestermere City Council on June 16.

Representatives of the Lakeside Greens Preservation Society attended the meeting to present the cheque and express appreciation for the city's ongoing support of the golf course. Those in attendance included society president Brent Ladds, executive director Darby King-Maillot, and board members Lindsay MacKeracher and Joe Samulenok.

According to information presented to council, the funds were raised through community fundraising efforts and will be directed toward the construction of a shelter on the golf course grounds.

City officials said the structure will provide protection from the elements for volunteers and staff who maintain and operate the facility.

In a report to council, the City noted that workers at the course have carried out their duties without access to a dedicated shelter since 1981.

The addition of a sheltered space is expected to improve working conditions for those responsible for maintaining the course and supporting day-to-day operations.

The donation reflects the continued involvement of residents and community organizations in supporting recreational amenities within Chestermere.

The Lakeside Greens Preservation Society has been active in advocating for the golf course and promoting its value as a community asset. The organization has participated in public discussions regarding the future of the property and has worked to raise awareness of the role the course plays in local recreation.

Golf courses often serve multiple purposes within a community. In addition to providing recreational opportunities, they can function as gathering spaces, support local events, and contribute to the overall character of an area. Supporters of the Lakeside Golf Club have frequently highlighted its history and longstanding presence in Chestermere.

The newly announced contribution represents a tangible investment in the people who help maintain the facility. While $3,000 may cover only a portion of the overall project cost, supporters say it demonstrates the community's willingness to contribute toward practical improvements that benefit volunteers and staff.

Council members accepted the donation during the meeting and thanked the organization for its efforts.

The shelter project is one of several improvements being considered as the city and community groups continue discussions about the future of recreational spaces in Chestermere.

For the Lakeside Greens Preservation Society, the donation is another step in its broader commitment to supporting the golf course and ensuring it remains a valued part of the community for years to come.

As fundraising and planning efforts continue, organizers say community involvement remains a key part of maintaining and enhancing local recreational amenities.
