Chestermere RCMP urge drivers to pause before leaving parking lots

16 October 2026

A new RCMP reminder asks motorists to check sidewalks and wait for a safe opening before entering traffic.

Chestermere RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down and check carefully when leaving parking lots, driveways and service roads.

In an October 16 notice shared by the City, police said drivers need to watch for traffic, pedestrians and changing road conditions before joining a roadway.

The reminder asks motorists to stop before crossing a sidewalk or entering the road, yield to traffic already on the roadway and wait for an opening that does not force another driver to brake or swerve.

Police also advise against waving another driver through, which can create uncertainty about who should proceed. Drivers should check for people walking or cycling and for vehicles turning at nearby accesses.

The RCMP advises extra care after dark and whenever weather or visibility makes it harder to see other road users.
