Chestermere RCMP Reminds Residents of E-Scooter and E-Bike Safety Rules

26 June 2026

Submitted by Chestermere RCMP

Chestermere, Alta. – June 25, 2026 – With warmer weather bringing more people outdoors, Chestermere RCMP are reminding the city residents regarding the safety risks associated with the use of e-scooters and e-bikes during the summer months. The residents are encouraged to know the rules and ride safely.

Privately owned e-scooters are generally not permitted on public roads, pathways, or sidewalks under Alberta legislation and may only be operated on private property. The exception is approved rental e-scooters operating under municipal authorization.

E-bikes and bicycles are lawful vehicles and riders must obey all traffic laws, including traffic signals, signs, and right-of-way rules. Helmets are mandatory for all bicycle and e-bike riders under 18 years of age.

RCMP encourages all riders to wear a helmet, stay alert, obey traffic laws, and respect pedestrians and other road users.

Officers will continue to focus on education and enforcement to help prevent collisions and injuries throughout the summer.

"Many collisions involving e-scooters and bicycles can be prevented through safe riding practices and awareness of the rules," says Staff Sergeant KLASSEN, the detachment commander of Chestermere RCMP. "We encourage riders and parents to take the time to understand their responsibilities before heading out."
