Members of the Chestermere Historical Foundation continued their annual tradition of exploring history firsthand with a visit to The Military Museums in Calgary on Tuesday, June 16.
Ten CHF members took part in this year’s historical outing, spending the day learning more about Canada’s military heritage and the stories behind those who served.
With the assistance of their tour host Logan, members enjoyed an extensive visit through the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) exhibit, followed by a guided walk through the Naval Museum.
One of the most memorable moments of the day came when CHF member and Second World War veteran Elmer Friesen, who attended with member Ken Friesen, had the opportunity to meet Bob, another Second World War veteran who volunteers at the museum.
The chance meeting provided a meaningful reminder that history is not only preserved through artifacts and displays, but through the personal stories and experiences shared by those who lived it.
The Chestermere Historical Foundation extended its appreciation to Logan for his time, knowledge, and the souvenir book presented during the visit. Thanks were also shared with photographer Deanna Ernst and everyone who participated in this year’s outing.
The annual excursions continue to provide CHF members with opportunities to explore, remember, and help keep important pieces of history alive for future generations.
