Lakeside Golf Club has received a $55,000 fundraising boost following the BET99 Invitational Golf Tournament, bringing together golfers, sponsors and former professional hockey players in support of improvements to the Chestermere course.

The tournament took place September 17. The fundraising total was subsequently confirmed by the Calgary Flames Alumni, whose members were among the participants supporting the event.

In the announcement celebrating the result, BET99 was thanked for organizing the tournament, along with the participants, sponsors, special guests and supporters who contributed to its success. The money is intended to support golf course improvements.

There was a familiar hockey presence on the fairways. According to the Calgary Flames Alumni, participants included Tim Hunter, Colin Patterson, Dana Murzyn, Kelly Kisio and Jamie Macoun, alongside Rich, Ron and Duane Sutter.

Other former NHL players named by the alumni organization included Archie Henderson, Neil Coulter, Lindsay Carson, Neil Brady, Tiger Williams, Dean Kennedy and Wayne McBean. The group also highlighted Patterson’s involvement in a separate post announcing the fundraising result.

Advance promotion described a tournament combining golf with entertainment and opportunities for participants to meet hockey alumni, business leaders and community partners.

An event listing published before the tournament advertised space for 36 four-person teams, a shotgun start and a concert featuring Canadian country performers Chad Brownlee and Jason Blaine. Those details describe the planned program; the fundraising announcement did not provide a final attendance count.

The contribution comes during a period of change for Lakeside under municipal ownership.

In its April 21 council highlights, the City of Chestermere reported on the course’s transition and the interim management arrangement for the 2026 season. Council received information about operational and financial improvements, including a new website and booking system, facility upgrades and the restaurant.

The City also reported that work was continuing to assess longer-term governance and operating options for the course.

The tournament announcement did not identify individual projects to receive the $55,000, provide a spending breakdown or set a construction schedule. It therefore remains unclear which improvements golfers will see first, or when that work will take place.

For now, the confirmed result is a contribution toward the course’s upkeep and enhancement, backed by participants from the local community and the hockey world.

The announcement closed by recognizing everyone who came together to support Lakeside Golf Club.
