Chestermere, Alta. – Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has charged two additional people in relation to the 2020 murder of a Chestermere resident. Sahil Grewal, an 18-year-old resident of Chestermere, died in hospital on April 6, 2020, after an April 3, 2020, incident.
On July 7, 2025, Mohit Sandhu, a 24-year-old resident of Conrich, Alta., was arrested and charged with first degree murder and attempted murder. The police investigation showed Sandhu delivered a mixture of cough syrup and fentanyl to the deceased, which he consumed. It is alleged the substance was also intended for a 25-year-old Calgary resident Jaskaran Sidhu. Sidhu did not receive or consume the substance and was unharmed.
Further investigation has determined that Harmanjot Chumber, a 24-year-old resident of Edmonton, and Dalvir Sidhu, a 33-year-old resident of Rockyview County, were both parties to the offence.
On July 16, 2026, Harmanjot Chumber and Dalvir Sidhu were charged with the following:
- First degree murder
- Attempted murder
With support of the Fugitive Apprehension Sheriff Support Team (FASST), Chumber was arrested on July 22, 2026, in Edmonton. Following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing, Chumber was remanded into custody. His next appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
With support of the Calgary Police Service Gang Suppression Team, Sidhu surrendered to police and was arrested in Calgary on July 24, 2026. Following a JIR hearing, Sidhu was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
